A Brief Introduction to Academic Degrees and Graduate Education
in Guangxi University General Information Initiated in 1978, the academic degrees and graduate education in Guangxi University have developed into a fairly perfect cultivating system during the past 27 years. Currently, there are 53 supervisors for Ph. D. candidates and 747 supervisors for M.A. candidates in our university. Professor Yang Zhenning, the famous physicist who has won the Nobel Prize, is our visiting professor and Pan Jiazheng, the academician and vice dean of Chinese Academy of Engineering is our concurrent professor. At present, there are more than 4,800 graduate students working in various fields of research in the university, more than 180 of whom working for their doctorates. Cultivating Infrastructures Our university owns 2 national key disciplines, 5 key developing disciplines of state level granted by “211 Project” and 16 key disciplines of the Autonomous Region. We have a “Key State Laboratory Breeding Base Co-Built by the Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Education”. There are also a Key Ministry of Education Open Laboratory, two Key Ministry of Education Laboratoris Co-Built by the Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Education as well as a Key State Forestry Administration Laboratory. Besides we also own 15 key laboratories of the Autonomous Region. Academic Programs The following programs are offered for the academic degrees and graduate education in Guangxi University: 1. The postdoctoral researches are feasible in the following 3 disciplines: biology, civil engineering and livestock farming. 2. The university offers programs and is authorized to confer doctorates for doctoral candidates in the following 6 disciplines: microbiology, power system and automation, structural engineering, chemical engineering, crop cultivation and tillage science as well as animal genetics and reproduction. 3. The university provides programs and is authorized to confer master degrees for M.A candidates in 74 second-grade disciplines distributed over the following 8 major disciplines: philosophy, economics, laws, literature, mathematics, engineering, agriculture and management. 4. There are 5 types of professional degree education in the university, which are Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Engineering (ME) in 11 fields, Master of Agriculture Promotion in 7 fields, Master of Professional Degree in Veterinary Medicine (MVM).In addition,our university also offers a Master's Degree Program for the further study of Clollege teachers. 5. Master Degrees are conferred to the students of the same educational levels. 6. In order to provide high-level and versatile talents to meet the desirable demand of the economic and social development of Guangxi, we offer courses of graduate studies. Living Conditions There are 12 buildings of apartments with a total area of more than 74,000 square meters for the dormitories of graduate students. The university will provides various loans, scholarships, work-study programs and part-time jobs for them for the purpose of improving their living conditions. The Management of Education To make degrees develop coordinately with the scale, structure and quality of graduate education, Guangxi University has established the Graduate School with 15 persons on the staff at present. The Graduate School comprises the following sections: Administrative Office：This office is responsible for drawing the plans, summarizing the work of the Graduate School and assisting leaders to carry out every task. Admission Office of Graduate Studies: It works for the macro-administration of the enrollment for graduate students according to the enrollment principles, policies and regulations of Ministry of Education, Department of Education of the autonomous region and Guangxi Enrollment and Examinations Authority. Academic Office of Graduate Studies: It follows the guidelines, policies and regulations of cultivating graduate students issued by Ministry of Education and Office of Academic Degrees of the Autonomous Region, and it functions for the macro-management of the cultivating programs for graduate students in our university. Office of Academic Degree and Program Development: It enforces the macro-administration of the academic degrees for graduate students and the construction of disciplines, according to the principles, policies and regulations for management of academic degrees issued by the Ministry of Education, the Office of Academic Degrees of the State Council and the Office of Academic Degrees of the Autonomous Region. |
